Description
The paramagnetic centers formed by polyethylenetherephtalate (PET) radiolysis, both in the presence and in the absence of air, is studied by ESR. Radiation doses between 10-4 Gy and 6x10-5 Gy from a 60 Co radiation source were used to irradiate the PET samples in vacuum . The irradiation of PET samples in the presence of air were performed with electron beams from a Van de Graaff accelerator which provides radiation doses of 4.5x104 Gy/min. The kinetics of radical thermal recombination is presented and an adequate radiolysis mechanism is proposed. (author)
