Joint severe accident studies under US-USSR JCCCNRS
Description
The Joint US-USSR Coordinating Committee on Civilian Nuclear Reactor Safety (JCCCNRS) was established in accordance with the Memorandum of Cooperation in the Field of Civilian Nuclear Reactor Safety between the United States and USSR that was signed by the parties on April 26, 1988. The activities within the framework of Working Group 6 on severe accidents and their consequences serve as an example of mutually beneficial cooperation. The consultations and discussions within the framework of this working group have resulted in signing a cooperative agreement on thermal-hydraulic research covering exchange of computer codes and their verification using experimental facilities as well as in an agreement on severe-accident research between the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy. That, in addition to the mutual exchange of computer codes, provides for the implementation of joint programs and projects as well as the temporary assignment of personnel of one party to laboratories and facilities of the other
