Design information verification at the Rokkasho reprocessing plant

In Japan, the DIV (Design Information Verification) activities have been performed by JSGO (Japan Safeguards Office) and IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) pursuant to article 48 in the 'Safeguards Agreement' IAEA provided the DIV Working Paper which outlines the DIV activities to be performed at the RRP during the construction and commissioning periods. It was agreed through the discussion among IAEA, JSGO and JNFL. Based on the DIV Working Paper, DIV activities such as verification of the room/cell layout, equipment, piping and vessel calibration have been performed more than 40 times since January 2000. The total number of DIV efforts are more than 600 person-day for IAEA and more than 400 person-day for JSGO. This paper describes the DIV activities performed at the RRP and operator's efforts.
