Some properties of stellar transition regions
Description
In this paper the strongest lines from stellar transition regions are studied. Plotting different observational flux ratios against each other, a mutual correlation between the transition region emission line fluxes is observed. The author argues that this cannot be due to some observational selection effects. A simple model with two free parameters is given, assuming the transition region to be static and to have constant pressure. Varying these free parameters, several emission line curves are obtained and displayed in a figure. For definite values of the parameters the curve fits fairly well to the observed data. The author concludes that these values are just the ones expected for constant conductive flux in the higher transition region. Secondly, the figure shows that there must exist small scale turbulences in stellar transition regions. (G.J.P.)
