Resonance reactions: isobaric analog resonances in heavy nuclei

  • 1. Univ., Cologne

Description

The study of isobaric analog resonances (IAR) in heavy nuclei through elastic proton scattering is discussed, and an extension is made to inelastic scattering. A brief discussion is given of the investigation of IAR through nuclear reactions with emphasis on cases where the resonance is either formed or decays through particles other than protons. The relation between the partial proton decay width obtained in a resonance and spectroscopic factors is discussed. Some technical aspects of experimental techniques in the study of IAR are presented. (7 figures, 3 tables, 124 references) (U.S.)
