Large-scale patterns formed by solar active regions during the ascending phase of cycle 21
- 1. Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics
Description
Large-scale patterns in the spatial and temporal distribution of solar active regions are investigated for 27 solar rotations between 1977 and 1979 by using synoptic maps of photospheric magnetic fields prepared at the Kitt Peak National Observatory. Active regions are found to be distributed not at random but in ''complexes of activity'' (Bumba and Howard)
