Aberrations in diverging electron beams caused by an inhomogeneous current density

  • 1. Philips Research Laboratories Eindhoven, Postbox 80.000, 5600 JA Eindhoven, The Netherlands

Description

For a diverging electron beam with parabolic space-charge density distribution, first-order perturbation theory is used to derive an analytic expression, yielding the aberrations as a function of the covered distance. Application of the derived expression shows that the performance of electrostatic projection TV guns may be severely degraded by the increase of the aberrations
