Description
An analysis of the conditions needed for a general Tian-Yau CP3xCP3/Z3 Calabi-Yau compactification of the heterotic string to reduce to the Standard Model at low energies is given. A model independent analysis shows that in general these conditions imply the existence of four new neutral light particles. The conditions on the Yukawa couplings for the existence of a light pair of Higgs doublets is given. (orig.)
