About the dynamic Jahn-Teller effect in fullerenes C60

  • 1. Kievskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ., Kiev (Ukraine)

Description

Numerical analysis of the dynamic Jahn-Teller effect in a molecule C60 is carried out. The Jahn-Teller distortions and Jahn-Teller splittings of intramolecular modes of fullerenes C60 in the case of excited low-frequency Hg types of vibrations are calculated within a proposed vibrational model. The symmetry of a deformed molecule C60 is analyzed. It is shown that the frequencies of splinted vibrations lie lower that the frequency of the main (degenerated) intramolecular mode. The obtained results are in good agreement with available experimental data
