Description

This presentation describes the phenomenon of tissue-induced inhomogeneous broadening due to the air/water interfaces in lung and includes a description of its physical basis, imaging and nonimaging techniques for its observation, recent theoretical development of the present stage of understanding of the mechanisms underlying the relaxation times T1 and T2 will also be given. Finally, a description of the rapid line scan (RLS) technique for obtaining rapid, artifactfree images of moving objects, such as the lungs of spontaneously breathing animals, is presented.
