Radionuclide monitoring of surface and ground water
Description
Assessment of the radiation dose received through yearly water consumption by man is discussed as a quantitative measure for the degree of water pollution by radioactivity. Because of the varying radiotoxicity of different nuclides, which can in extreme cases differ by a factor of 100,000, non-selective measuring techniques are not adequate and monitoring should be based on measurements of individual radionuclide concentrations (specific activities) instead. A few illustrative examples of such measurements performed routinely are given. (orig.)

Die Ermittlung der ueber den jaehrlichen Wasserverbrauch des Menschen aufgenommenen Strahlendosis wird als quantitatives Mass fuer den Grad der Wasserbelastung durch Radioaktivitaet erlaeutert. Wegen der schwankenden Radiotoxizitaet der verschiedenen Nuklide, die in extremen Faellen Unterschiede um den Faktor 100 000 aufweisen kann, sind nichtselektive Messverfahren ungeeignet; die Ueberwachung sollte stattdessen auf der Basis von Messungen der einzelnen Radionuklidkonzentrationen (spezifische Aktivitaeten) erfolgen. Zur Veranschaulichung werden einige Beispiele fuer derartige, routinemaessig durchgefuehrte Messungen angefuehrt. (orig.)Additional details
