Description
Master equations corresponding to the leading log approximation are used to derive exponentialized versions of the Stermann-Weinberg-type formulae for quark jets and for gluon jets. Neglecting terms which go to zero with 2epsilon (fraction of jet energy not registered by the calorimeters), one obtains simple analytic formulae with a clear physical interpretation. These formulae provide a generalization of the lowest-order perturbative result, valid in the range of applicability of the leading log approximation. (orig.)
