Effect of irradiation on the activity of phosphodiesterase of cyclic 3', 5' - AMP in isolated thymocytes of rats
Description
The viability of rat thymocytes decreased with increasing dose (250-100 rad) of γ-irradiation. Inhibition at phosphodiesterase I (E.C. 3.1.4.1) was observed in in vivo and in vitro experiments 5 hr after irradiation which was probably a result of cell death. However, when the enzyme activity was counted 1-2 hr after irradiation and especially when counted per living cell, a stimulatory effect was noted; this stimulatory effect may result from conformational changes in the enzyme molecule induced by irradiation
