Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Study of Gamma Irradiated N-CARBAMYL-DL-ALPHA AMINO-N-BUTYRIC Acid

The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of gamma irradiated powders of N- carbamyl-DL-alpha amino-n-butyric acid were investigated at room temperature. The radiation damage centers produced in the N-carbamyl-DL-alpha amino-n-butyric acid were attributed to the HNCCH2CH3 radical. The EPR spectra were computer simulated and the g values of the radicals and the hyperfine structure constants of the unpaired electron with the environmental protons and 14N nucleus were determined. These results were found to be in good agreement with the existing literature data. The EPR spectra were recorded with a Varian model X-band E-109C EPR spectrometer at room temperature.
