Relation between uranium-bearing alkaline volcanic rocks and its surrounding country rocks at abu gazayer area central eastern desert. egypt

Description

Abu Gazayer area is located in the central eastern desert. and is about 46 Km2 it is built up of a sequence of igneous and metamorphic rocks of late precambrian age. Geological, radiometric and structural studies revealed that the exposures of metasediments, meta volcanics. Hammamat sediments and late orogenic granites have comparable ranges of radioactivity similar to the same types in other areas in the eastern desert. On the other hand, the study proved the presence of two main types of highly radioactive bostonite rocks which differ completely in their characteristic features and mineralization. High radioactive anomalies in buff bostonite type are associated with tension joints nearly normal to the contact of bostonite bodies with the country rocks. Such radioactive joints tend to follow the NE-S W, E N E-W S W and N-S trends. The hematitized bostonite type. On the other hand.owe its high radioactivity to mixed uranium and thorium. Hydrothermal origin for these radioactive anomalies is postulated
