Description
The ''counting of maxima'' method of Brink and Stephen, conventionally used for the extraction of the correlation width of statistical (compound nucleus) reactions, is generalized to include precompound processes as well. It is found that this method supplies an important independent check of the results obtained from autocorrelation studies. An application is made to the reaction 25Mg(3He, p)
