Radioecological studies in the main outfall of Gundremmingen nuclear power station

Description

A radiological analysis has been carried out downstream of the nuclear demonstration plant at Gundremmingen. The study attempts to find out how the discharged liquid radioactive wastes influence the radioactivity level in the main outfall system. The specific activity in water and hydrobiological material was studied. Some of the radionuclides show considerable enrichment in the hydrobiological material. Exposure of humans is due to radioactive waste products in the food chain rather than to drinking water. Therefore, determination of the re-concentration of radionuclides and its description by so-called concentration factors is a matter of great importance. (orig./RW)

Abstract (German)

Unterhalb des Demonstrationskernkraftwerks Gundremmingen wird eine radiologische Analyse durchgefuehrt. Hierbei wird untersucht, wie die abgegebenen radioaktiven Abwaesser den Radioaktivitaetsspiegel im Vorflutersystem beeinflussen. Es wird hierbei die spez. Aktivitaet im Wasser und hydrobiologischen Material untersucht. Die Radionuklide reichern sich im hydrobiologischen Material teilweise erheblich an. Die Strahlenbelastung des Menschen ruehrt nicht so sehr vom Trinkwassergenuss, sondern vielmehr von der Einbeziehung der radioaktiven Abfallprodukte in Naehrstoffketten her. Die Bestimmung der Rekonzentrierung der Radionuklide und ihre Beschreibung durch sog. Konzentrierungsfaktoren ist also von allergroesster Bedeutung. (orig./RW)
