The relationship of channeling radiation to Thomson scattering and the relative efficiency of X-ray production by intense electron beams

Description
Laser X-ray sources based on Thomson backscattering of relativistic electrons by intense laser beams are compared with channeling radiation in oriented crystals. It is shown, that theories of these two types of radiation are very similar to each other but channeling radiation turns out to represent a more general case. Recent experimental results have been analyzed in detail. The advantages and the problems of both types of X-ray sources have been studied. (Copyright (c) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V., Amsterdam.
