Hydrogen effect on structure and properties of pseudo-alpha-titanium alloy

Description

The structure and phase composition of pseuso-alpha-titanium alloy Ti-6%Al-1%V-%Mo (with lower and upper critical points at 830 and 050 deg C respectively) was studied after saturation in hydrogen atmosphere and out of it. It is ascertained that a greater tendency of pseudo-alpha-titanium alloys to hydrogen brittleness as compared with alpha- and (alpha + beta)-alloys can be brought about not only by increase in the absolute content of hydrogen, oversaturation of alpha- and beta-solid solutions and formation of hydrogen-containing precipitates but also by beta-phase decay in temperature-time conditions of hydrogenation, which results in decrease in impact strength in case of already thousandth parts of per cent of hydrogen
