Description
Pursuant to the directive issued by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, waste conditioning for volume reduction must be carried out at the source, if possible. The article contains an outline of waste conditioning systems for liquid and solid radioactive wastes. Points described in greater detail are the criteria established by customers and projects, and the integration of systems in existing logistics and infrastructure facilities. Even for rather clearcut processes there is a trend to move away from isolated processes in favor of a complete waste management concept. In addition to specific procedures for radioactive waste conditioning, also a complete waste treatment building is described from the basic design concept to completion. Siemens has basic modules for such specific issues as licensing, fire protection, radiology, systems. This is the basis on which customized versions are planned and built in the light of special criteria required by a customer or a project. In addition to the growing importance of complete waste management concepts, also a positive cost-benefit assessment is a basic necessity. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
(orig.)Additional details
