Cooling rate role in structure formation of titanium alloys thermal strengthening with incomplete homogenizing β-phase

Description

The process of structure formation in two-phase titanium alloys VT23 and VT6, when β-phase of different homogenization degree is cooled, has been studied. It is shown, that at cooling rates below certain critical value on martensitic β → α' (α'')-transformation diffusional processes of alloying element redistribution are superimposed. A scheme, describing concentrational changes in heterogeneous β-phase during cooling, has been suggested. A possibility to use quick heating in combination with accelarated cooling for the optimization of two-phase titanium alloy structure is pointed out
