Spatial presaturation

Description

Spatial presaturation (SP) is a recently developed technique for reducing flow and motion artifacts in MR imaging. This study assessed the role of SP in relation to other artifact reduction methods: flow compensation (FC) and respiratory compensation (RC). Combinations of these techniques were evaluated in over 200 clinical body examinations on a 1.5-T imager. The SP + RC combination was extremely effective. SP + RC was also helpful in electrocardiogram-gated cardiac examinations. FC alone was deleterious in many examinations. The combination of SP + FC was occasionally useful. Other SP applications were evaluated, including reduction of wraparound artifact. SP is a powerful tool for improving the diagnostic quality of clinical MR images
