Description

A previously reported observation of electrons produced in proton-proton collisions at the CERN ISR has been extended to 5 different centre-of-mass energies (√s=23.5, 30.6, 44.8, 52.7 and 62.4GeV). The apparatus detected electrons with transverse momenta, greater than 1.0GeV/c. The ratio of the electron to pion cross sections in the kinematic region studied is approximately 10-4. The momentum spectrum and particle composition of particles emitted with ΔPHI approximately 180 deg relative to the electrons are found to be similar to those emitted with pions
