Description
An approach to the catalysis effect of a magnetic monopole for proton decay is proposed by considering the proton as a bag of uud quarks scattering on the SU(5) colorless magnetic monopole. Our approach is under the guidance of two principles: electric charge conservation and color confinement. We get the cross section for the proton decay catalyzed by the monopole, sigma = (3π/P2)Σsub(b)Dsub(b), where Dsub(b) is of the order of magnitude 10-4, and P is the momentum of the proton. (orig.)
