Bioaccumulation of certain radionuclides by the fresh water clam unio praesidens
Description
The present study deals with uptake and accumulation of cobalt-60, cerium -144 and Zn-65 by the fresh water bivalve clam Unio praesidens. The results showed that the soft part accumulated the studied radionuclides to a larger extent than the shell. The soft part accumulated Co-60 > Ce-14 4> Zn-65. In the meantime, changing the carrier concentration affected the above order of uptake. Maximum uptake has been attained at canal water pH 7 as the pH changed from 5-9.
