Ion acoustic parametric decay instability in a plasma with β>1
Description
It is found that in a plasma with β>1 a finite amplitude ion acoustic wave is unstable and decays into two shear Alfven waves propagating in opposite directions. The threshold and growth rate of the instability are determined. (Auth.)
