The influence of electron capture on the cross-section of elastic electron scattering by Be+ and Mg+ ions

Description
Calculation of differential cross-sections of elastic electron scattering by Be+ and Mg+ ions in the energy range from the threshold to 3.96 eV for Be+ and to 4.42 eV for Mg+ is carried out in the present paper using a modified Feshbach method. The process of capture of the projectile into autoionizing states of Be and Mg is taken into account. Both energy and angular dependences of the differential elastic cross-section are obtained. The resonance structure of the cross-sections due to formation and subsequent Auger-decay of the autoionizing states is discussed. It is found that the main contribution to the elastic cross-section is made by 3P0, sup(3)Dsup(e), sup(1.3)Fsup(0) resonances, which determine practically completely the cross-section structure
