Environmental considerations in biomass resource management for a greenhouse-constrained society
Description
The author presents just a brief introduction on the effects and causes of climate change relative to biomass resources. This is meant to provide the air of uncertainty which underlies biomass resource assumptions and predictions. Imposed on this are general controlling aspects of resource qualities, inventories, trends, costs, and policies which influence global and regional capabilities to sequester carbon in vegetation and sustain a biofuel industry. Finally, ecological principles and concepts are discussed in an effort to discover ideas for more ecologically sensitive responses and strategies to managing biomass resources in a greenhouse-constrained environment. Improvement of soil organic carbon, improvements in habitat diversity, and matching harvest strategies with ecosystem characteristics and rainfall is suggested
