Josephson effects in superconductors
Description
The history of the discovery of the Josephson effect in superconductors and its principle are described. The possible applications of the Josephson effect are indicated and SQUID, the superconducting quantum interference device, which may be used in the contactless scanning of very weak magnetic fields is described. The Josephson effect may also be used in designing logic circuits. (J.B.)
