The event no. 112 detected in the experiment series at Chacaltaya
Description
Recently the existance of UH-quantum (Ultra Heavy quantum) as an intermediate product induced by the nuclear interaction had been expected in the extremely high energy region. The actual proof that it exists is now found in the cosmic-ray experiment with emulsion chamber exposed at Chacaltaya, 5200 m high above the sea, Bolivia, which the Japan-Brasil collaboration has been making. The event ''No.112'' detected in the chamber 17 in the series of this experiment was identified to be originated at the position 175 m high above the chamber by the atmospheric nuclear interaction. It was analysed to be from the isotropic decay of an intermediate product, mass of which was calculated as M asymptotically equals 231 GeV/c2. This value is extraordinary compared with that of H-quantum (M asymptotically equals 2.5 GeV/c2) and of the SH-quantum (M asymptotically equals 25 GeV/c2). This massive intermediate product was identified as UH-quantum. Many other events in the extremely high energy region (Σe sub(γ)>=100 TeV) has been under analysis and by now the four were known as UH-quantum type originated not so far from the chamber by the atmospheric nuclear interactions. Some of the rest still have the possibility of UH-quantum, and so the UH-quantum must be popular in the energy range of around 100 TeV or above. (auth.)
