Flaw growth monitoring for safer plant
Description
A technique which accurately measures slow growing cracks in welds and steels has been developed by scientists at Harwell Laboratory's National Nondestructive Testing Centre (NNDTC). Flaw growth monitoring is a major step forward in the safety assessment of steel structures; it removes guesswork from the estimation of crack growth rates and renders Nondestructive Testing a prevention rather than a cure.
