Bc meson production in γγ collisions and the charm content of the photon
Description
Based on the photon structure function formalism we calculate the Bc(Bc*) meson production cross section in γγ collisions via the partonic subprocess cγ→Bc(Bc*)b. It is shown that this approach gives the same results for Bc(Bc*) meson cross sections as the direct leading order QCD calculation of the subprocess γγ→Bc(Bc*)b bar c at small energy. However, as opposed to the direct QCD calculation we have obtained an increase in the Bc(Bc*) meson cross section at large energies. We have found also an additional contribution to the Bc meson production via the nonperturbative fluctuations γ↔J/ψ. copyright 1996 The American Physical Society
