Description

The biological damage generated in normal connective tissue by fractionated or continuous radiation therapy can be measured on a scale of accumulative subtolerance radiation damage, the cumulative radiation effect (CRE). The general properties and applications of the CRE system will be briefly described and particular aspects, which lead to qualitative predictions which can be tested by experiments on biological systems in animals or on the basis of clinical judgement and experience, will be emphasized.
