Tritium in river flow-rate gauging - theory and experience
Description
Artificial tritium is used for flow-rate gauging of large and turbulent rivers where conventional methods can not be used and chemical tracers are not feasible, as shown by comparison of various tracers for large flow-rates. Published so far reports on applications of tritium for flow gauging is reviewed. Several practical problems in planning and execution of measurement are discussed. These problems are: the estimation of mixing length, beginning, duration and frequency of sampling, accuracy of gauging. Methodology of measurement of tritium samples and precautions to avoid contamination during experiment are also discussed. (author). 16 refs, 2 figs, 5 tabs
