Statistical treatment of data on environmental isotopes in precipitation

This publication is an extended and revised version of the volume entitled Statistical Treatment of Environmental Isotope Data in Precipitation, published in 1981 by the IAEA as Technical Reports Series No. 206. It contains a statistical evaluation of isotope and meteorological data accumulated during three decades of operation of the global network, Isotopes in Precipitation, which was set up in 1961 by the IAEA in co-operation with the World Meteorological Organization and several national laboratories. Monthly precipitation samples and meteorological data have been collected by the meteorological services of more than eighty countries. The isotopic analyses were performed by the IAEA's Isotope Hydrology Laboratory and by co-operating laboratories in 17 countries. Out of 386 stations for which isotope and meteorological data are available, 180 stations were selected for statistical treatment, the results of which are presented in this book. The data accumulated up to the end of 1987 were considered in the treatment. Tables and graphs are presented for each station, illustrating the most characteristic features of the accumulated isotope database. 20 refs, 7 figs
