Some aspects of applying liquid scintillation counting for tritium measurements in water

Description
An analytical method for measurement of natural tritium in water samples, adapted in the Tritium Laboratory in Cracow is described. Results of experiments carried out for the investigation of some measuring effects in liquid scintillation counting are presented. Samples stored in polyethylene counting vials for a long time show detectable decrease in count rate. It was shown, that this effect is mainly caused by diffusion of scintillation mixture through the walls of counting vials. The decay time of phosphorescence and delayed fluorescence in the sample was determined for one hour. (author)
