[en] Embedded components are one of the current trends in electronics, allowing to produce more compact devices with increased functionality. Such components can be applied, among others, in fabrication devices used in the Internet-of-Things technology or in special industries. Therefore, their reliability plays a key role due to safety requirements and high deployment costs. Herein, the thermal reliability of a system of sensors embedded into a printed circuit board (PCB) is examined. The samples produced are exposed to temperature cycling, -40 °C/+105 °C, or high temperature/high humidity, 85 °C/85% relative humidity (RH). The quality of solder joints is evaluated on the basis of X-ray inspection and cross sections before and after the exposure mentioned earlier. The tests show no damage to the solder joints of the samples subjected to reliability testing in high-temperature/high-humidity conditions, irrespective of the solder alloy used. Cracks appear after 500 cycles, -40 °C/+105 °C, in samples soldered with Sn99Cu1 and after 1000 temperature cycles in both Sn99Cu1 and LFM-48S (SnAg3.0Cu0.5) solders. The presented results are used for efficient embedding of electronic components into PCBs. [en] We propose using high order partial least squares path modeling (PLS-PM) to define a synthetic Italian well-being index merging traditional data, represented by the Quality of Life index proposed by “Il Sole 24 Ore”, and information provided by big data, represented by a Subjective Well-being Index (SWBI) performed extracting moods by Twitter. High order constructs allow to define a more abstract higher-level dimension and its more concrete lower-order sub-dimensions. These layered constructs have gained wide attention in applications of PLS-PM; many contributions in literature proposed their use to build composite indicators. The aim of the paper is to underline some critical issues in the use of these models and to suggest the implementation of a new adapted repeated indicator approach. Furthermore, following some recommendations proposed on the use of PLS-PM in longitudinal studies, we compare the situation in 2016 and 2017.
[en] Progress in Big Data in recent years has grown exponentially, which has allowed the detection and processing of a large amount of data. Until recently, this fact was unattainable by the lack of mechanization of the corporate governance reports. This paper investigates the relationship between corporate governance decisions affect the indebtedness policies of 1,956 industrial companies listed in Europe and the USA over the period 2016–2018 (5,868 observations). To measure corporate governance decisions, we use detailed information on the expertise of audit committees, the proportion of independent directors, board structures and women's presence on corporate boards. Our findings, which are based on a static panel data analysis, show that there is a strong negative relationship between Audit Committees expertise and indebtedness level in European and North American companies. There are also evidence that European and American companies with a onetier board structure and Audit Committees expertise are less likely to have lower level of indebtedness. Our results shed new light on corporate governance in relation to the experience of audit committees and the influence of their characteristics on indebtedness policy
[en] In this paper we use high frequency multidimensional textual news data and propose an index of inflation news. We utilize the power of text mining and its ability to convert large collections of text from unstructured to structured form for in-depth quantitative analysis of online news data. The significant relationship between the household’s infla-tion expectations and news topics is documented and the forecasting performance of news-based indices is evaluated for different horizons and model variations. Results sug-gest that with optimal number of topics a machine learning model is able to forecast the inflation expectations with greater accuracy than the simple autoregressive models. Addi-tional results from forecasting headline inflation indicate that the overall forecasting accu-racy is at a good level. Findings in this paper support the view in the literature that the news are good indicators of inflation and are able to capture inflation expectations well.
[en] A constrained information is obtained as a result of tracking or monitoring wild animals through some traditional approaches. Large area characterization of biodiversity's prospect has been offered by remote sensing in a repeatable, systematic and spatially exhaustive manner. For effective valuation of forest resources, proficient investment, policies, and planning information and monitoring the forest sector would be more beneficial. Still, it's great difficult for preventing Red sanders, sandalwood, teak wood from deforestation. It is hard for saving trees in the forest which is a large area in spite of some advanced technologies. Even implementation be luxurious. In this paper, a system has been provided for forest monitoring and its vicinity that also includes avoidance of trafficking of trees with an IOT based WSN technology. Due to considerable vast area, it is still hard research for forest and surrounding area monitoring. And issues related to forest could be a life-threatening and inefficient even after deployment of sufficient manpower. For the prevention of forest mishaps, animal intrusion in surrounding areas, and illegal activities, a WSN based on IoT has been attempted which also eliminates manual power to a higher extent. [en] In recent times, transmission of information over wireless channels is increasing at an exponential rate. Internet is major source of information; it can be in the form of video or images which alone size up to 72% of the global traffic. In order to tackle such immense data, available channel may not be enough for transmission or reception, in this regard it is imperative to use efficient compressions techniques to reduce its size. Compressed image quality depends on the Quantization Table performed after spatial transformation like Discrete Cosine Transform. Size of a raw image captured by Digital Single-Lens Reflex, having all of its traits can easily exceed 20 Mega Bytes. In proposed compression algorithm, a Crisp parameter p modification step is introduced for effective compression of an image by utilizing standard Joint Picture Expert Group Quantization Table as a baseline model. After implementation of the proposed algorithm, Mean Opinion Score is obtained from the masses through an online survey and it provide the scores of 47.633 at p = 1, 62.74 at p = 8, and 83.252 at p = 16. According to Mean opinion score, best trade-off between quality and size of an image is between the values of p ranges from 11-20, this is also proved by Mean Squared Error and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio, as their ranges are 0.00038-0.000301 and 34.09-34.92 dB respectively. Compression Ratio which is from 6.49-5.76 is also acceptable for the given range. (author)
[en] Competing newspapers, tend to publish the same information in a given time frame. However, each editor tends to aggregate and present the news according to certain criteria such as editorial policies, filtering strategies, readers base, etc. Thus, the proper choice and filtering of information makes one newspaper different from the other and, the proper management of such criteria, may deem the success or failure of a newspaper. From the editor’s perspective, the news selection process is a trade-off between informativeness and attractiveness, as determined by the readership. Moreover, is it possible that cultural and political inputs from social media may impact the news selection process? Political news on social networks represent nowadays a valuable informative asset that gives the possibility to correlate newspaper information with public request expressed on social networks. We believe that it is possible to develop a theory to mitigate the newspaper’s cultural identity with the public information needs collected on social media. In our work, we show how to measure the society's request for information through the analysis of public reaction to certain articles on social networks, in particular we present how studying the hashtags and articles shared can be conveyed to understand social dynamics in nowadays discussion.
[en] Recently, many new network paths were introduced, while old paths are still in use. The trade-offs remain vague and should be further addressed. Since the last decade, the Internet is playing a major role in persons' lives, and the demand on the Internet in all fields increased rapidly. To get a fast and secure connection to the Internet, the networks providing the service should get faster and more reliable. Many network data paths have been proposed to achieve the previous objectives since the 1970s. It started with the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) and later followed by several more modern paths, including the Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC), the Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA), and the Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK). The question on which data path should be adapted and based on which features is occurred. In this work, we will try to answer this question using different perspectives such as the protocol techniques, latency and congestion control, the achieved throughput, middle boxes consideration, loss recovery mechanisms, developer productivity, and host resource utilization. [en] Maintenance and Operation Section for Remote Control Equipment in Naraha Center for Remote Control Technology Development is the main part of the nuclear emergency response team of JAEA deal with Act on Special Measures Concerning Nuclear Emergency Preparedness. The section needs to remodel crawler-type robots for tasks, crawler-type scouting robots, and so on. About two crawler-type robots for tasks, the section designed and mounted advanced wireless communication equipment on manipulators mounted on the two robots. The crawler part of the robot has been able to be controlled by way of the new equipment, and when it is broken down, it can be changed by way of an original equipment. And the new equipment makes a single relay robot controllable both the crawler part and the manipulator part of the robot, in case of wireless relay robots being needed. And after checking the ability and characteristic about 5 wireless communication equipment, the section chose and mounted the best equipment on one crawler-type scouting robot. This report shows design and mounting advanced wireless communication equipment on the two crawler-type robots for tasks and on the one crawler-type scouting robot. (author)
