[en] Social media are fundamental in creating new opportunities for firms and they represent a relevant tool for the communication and the engagement with customers. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the communication of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities on Twitter. We consider the listed companies included in the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index and we implement a topic model analysis on their timelines. In order to identify the topic discussed, their correlation, and their evolution over time and sectors, we apply the Structural Topic Model algorithm, which allows estimating the model including document-level metadata. This model proves to be a powerful tool for topic detection and for estimating the effects of document-level metadata. Indeed, we find that the topics are overall well identified, and the model allows catching signals from the data. Large area characterization of biodiversity's prospect has been offered by remote sensing in a repeatable, systematic and spatially exhaustive manner. For effective valuation of forest resources, proficient investment, policies, and planning information and monitoring the forest sector would be more beneficial. Still, it's great difficult for preventing Red sanders, sandalwood, teak wood from deforestation. It is hard for saving trees in the forest which is a large area in spite of some advanced technologies. Even implementation be luxurious. In this paper, a system has been provided for forest monitoring and its vicinity that also includes avoidance of trafficking of trees with an IOT based WSN technology. Due to considerable vast area, it is still hard research for forest and surrounding area monitoring. And issues related to forest could be a life-threatening and inefficient even after deployment of sufficient manpower. For the prevention of forest mishaps, animal intrusion in surrounding areas, and illegal activities, a WSN based on IoT has been attempted which also eliminates manual power to a higher extent. [en] Several studies have shown that uncertainty among economic actors influences business cycle dynamics. This paper uses Google Trends topic queries to construct an uncertainty proxy that can be applied to every country where Google is active. Using a VAR approach, this paper demonstrates that the obtained impulse-response functions of main economic indicators to a onestandard deviation shock to the constructed indicator, are similar to those from an already-existing uncertainty proxy, the EPU. This is true for the G7 countries and Russia. On average, the uncertainty indicator constructed for this paper leads to more statistically significant responses than does the EPU. Thus, this paper shows that Google Trends is a helpful tool for obtaining timely information about uncertainty among economic actors. The main improvement in this uncertainty proxy is in its language independence. Existing uncertaintymeasurement approaches, in contrast, rely on certain keywords that often vary across countries.
[en] Competing newspapers, tend to publish the same information in a given time frame. However, each editor tends to aggregate and present the news according to certain criteria such as editorial policies, filtering strategies, readers base, etc. Thus, the proper choice and filtering of information makes one newspaper different from the other and, the proper management of such criteria, may deem the success or failure of a newspaper. From the editor’s perspective, the news selection process is a trade-off between informativeness and attractiveness, as determined by the readership. Moreover, is it possible that cultural and political inputs from social media may impact the news selection process? Political news on social networks represent nowadays a valuable informative asset that gives the possibility to correlate newspaper information with public request expressed on social networks. We believe that it is possible to develop a theory to mitigate the newspaper’s cultural identity with the public information needs collected on social media. In our work, we show how to measure the society's request for information through the analysis of public reaction to certain articles on social networks, in particular we present how studying the hashtags and articles shared can be conveyed to understand social dynamics in nowadays discussion.
[en] Recently, many new network paths were introduced, while old paths are still in use. The trade-offs remain vague and should be further addressed. Since the last decade, the Internet is playing a major role in persons' lives, and the demand on the Internet in all fields increased rapidly. To get a fast and secure connection to the Internet, the networks providing the service should get faster and more reliable. Many network data paths have been proposed to achieve the previous objectives since the 1970s. It started with the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) and later followed by several more modern paths, including the Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC), the Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA), and the Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK). The question on which data path should be adapted and based on which features is occurred. In this work, we will try to answer this question using different perspectives such as the protocol techniques, latency and congestion control, the achieved throughput, middle boxes consideration, loss recovery mechanisms, developer productivity, and host resource utilization. [en] Cybermetrics field is attracting considerable interest due to its utility as a data-oriented technique for research, though it may provide misleading information when used in complex systems. This paper outlines a new approach to market research analysis through the definition of composite indicators for cybermetrics, applied to the Spanish wine market. Our findings show that the majority of cellars were present in only one or two social media networks: Facebook, Twitter or both. Besides, the presence on the Web can be summarized into three principal components: website quality, presence on Facebook, and presence on Twitter. Three groups of cellars were identified according to their position in these components: cellars with a high number of errors in their website with complete absence of information in social media, cellars with strong presence in social media, and cellars in an intermediate position. Our results constitute an excellent initial step towards the definition of a methodology for building composite indicators in cybermetrics. From a practical approach, these indicators may encourage cellar managers to make better decisions towards their transition to the digital market
[en] Cloud computing is contemporary technology in which services are provided in the form of infrastructure, software, and platform. Cloud computing enables the users and clients to remotely access the server(s) and avail numerous services on a demand basis. Cloud Computing is rapidly growing due to the cheapest cloud services in the form of Platform as a Service-PaaS, Infrastructure as a Service-IaaS, Software as a Service-SaaS and zero level maintenance cost for end-users. Various types of attacks may be launched to destroy the services or even to make them unavailable for the users. A few of the well-known attacks are Denial of Service-DoS, Distributed Denial of Service-DDoS attacks. In this paper, we propose a hybrid security model that will not only provide protection from DoS attack, DDoS attack, EDoS attack, but also will detect these attacks and generate the intrusion alarm. The study floats from a critical analysis of the already proposed solutions to the proposed solution through a proposed hybrid model. The proposed hybrid model will check and filter each generated request. After monitoring and filtering the behavior of requests, responses will be generated to the end-users. The proposed model will not only achieve the availability services but also will save the processing time and bandwidth usage also. (author)
[en] We use unconventional, web-based user data to assess regional entrepreneurial activity and regional variations in characteristics and culture that drive differences in business formation. Using geographically granular, user-online activity to estimate a region’s proclivity for entrepreneurship, we assess the statistical relationship between business formation, operationalized as establishment births, and a region’s general interest in “third places” – informal gathering and mixing locations – and websites related to arts, music and design – “arts spaces.” We operationalize interest in, or intention to patronize, third places and arts spaces by individuals within a geographical unit of analysis (U.S. counties) who access website information and resources related to those third places. Controlling for regional interest in entrepreneurship related web resources, we find that interest in third places and art spaces is strongly associated with regional variation in business formation. This work corroborates research showing that regions with a high concentration of interest (and participation) in third places and art spaces may attract the attention of would be entrepreneurs as desirable places to live, work and explore business opportunities, and help identify and address a critical missing ingredient in regions that have lower rates of start-ups and business growth.
[en] The paper describes a project of automatic selection, scraping, and full-text analysis of contracts in the area of IT and Information Systems. The purpose of the project was to extract manday prices and build the list of usual manday prices for particular roles that are stated in the contracts. The list aims to provide a foundation for sizing of new IT solutions before the public tender for an association of major state institutions of the Czech Republic. The result of the research is the list of usual prices for the specified roles, including blended rate, based on median and interval between quartiles, all with demonstrable links to origin contracts. The discussion states additional social factors to be considered when interpreting and using the resulting list, like the subjective influence of validators, tendency for generalization, or defensive attitude of affected vendors.
[en] As the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) has an international composition, many staff members have already experienced the need to adjust to new living norms when they relocated to Paris. Tapping into that experience and resilience to adapt to the completely different new normal that affects every aspect of life has been immeasurably important in recent months. The effects of COVID-19 on the NEA working environment occurred gradually. Initially, there were rescheduled meetings and an air of ambiguity from the various health authorities on how long alternative measures would be required. As the reality of the situation unfolded, it became clear that there would be a new normal and the transition period itself would be a temporary normality. The NEA quickly adjusted and switched to a virtual method of interaction, with the mind-set that this new set up would only be required for a few months. Luckily, staff were readily equipped for this new reality since due to their frequent travel they were already familiar with the tools for remote working. Now, these tools support what is essentially a prolonged mission at home. The NEA has continued to interact with its member countries via video conferences, e-mails and phone calls, in order to ensure that existing connections do not break. The same applies to internal interactions to maintain a collaborative environment, even though a conversation over coffee is no longer a quick walk away. It will take an unknown amount of time to recommence the in-person meetings of committees, working parties and expert groups, and take advantage of the synergy gained from those human interactions. Nevertheless, there is hope that the same collegial attitude that has developed in the current situation will sustain these collaborative interactions when 'normal' meeting arrangements resume
