AbstractAbstract
[en] Visual acuity tests for radiographic inspectors should be correlated with the type of tasks encountered in real world radiography. The testing procedures should be capable of assessing differences in day to day performance of a given inspector as well as the performance of one inspector relative to other inspectors. Single line targets with specific parametric values for contrast, width, and blur are recommended to provide a means for testing a radiographic inspector for visual acuity. These targets may be used for periodic tests by the employing organization or for more frequent self testing by the inspector. Statistics from the National Health Survey, procedures recommended by the NAS-NRC Committee on Vision and real world radiographs have been utilized in arriving at recommended test configurations

AbstractAbstract
[en] In the framework of mechanical tests and to answer the different requests for tests, the T.C.R (Transport Conditionnement et Retraitement) laboratory got test facilities. These installations allow to carry out tests of resistance to shocks, mainly at the safety level of components of nuclear power plants, mockups of transport casks for fuel elements and transport containers for radioactive materials. They include a tower and a catapult. This paper give a decription of the facilities and explain their operation way

AbstractAbstract
[en] The combining of two environments, i.e., linear acceleration and vibration, for use in laboratory testing to determine the damage to some mechanical devices when simultaneously subjected to these two environments, is discussed. The use of a Genisco centrifuge with an Unholtz-Dickie vibration machine mounted on it is described. Initial efforts at operating a shaker on the centrifuge have not been completely successful, so modifications to the system are being made

AbstractAbstract
[en] This is a report on the development of improved analytical methods for predicting puncture of radioactive material shipping containers. 59 static and dynamic puncture tests were conducted of lead-backed, uranium-backed, and unbacked flat, circular, stainless steel plates with several mild-steel punch configurations. It was found that analytical puncture prediction requires two essential elements: (1) a code that will accurately tract stress and displacement throughout the event and (2) a criterion for identifying when and if puncture occurs. (The puncture event is not self-evident from the calculations.) The NIKE2D finite element code was coupled with the puncture criteria -- a shear stress criterion for the lead-backed plates and a maximum effective plastic strain criterion for the uranium-backed plates; the results agreed very well with the test data
