[en] The International Nuclear Information System (INIS) once created to facilitate information exchange in the broad range of scientific and technical fields related to peaceful applications of nuclear power has evolved into a Knowledge Organization System (KOS) consisting of a digital repository and an advanced multi-language thesaurus. This paper gives a general description of the establishment, evolution and features of INIS not only as a digital repository but as one of the key resources of knowledge organization and preservation in the nuclear field. [en] Organizations are generating, processing, and retaining data at a rate that often exceeds their ability to analyze it effectively; at the same time, the insights derived from these large data sets are often key to the success of the organizations, allowing them to better understand how to solve hard problems and thus gain competitive advantage (Kononenko et al., 2014). A Library and Information Science (LIS) professional should be aware of search engines which provides an advanced edge over the existing search engines by way of providing multiple features. Elasticsearch is an open source and distributed search engine. It is index based search engine and works on the concept of Inverted Index, which allows very fast data insertion and retrieval. The present work makes an attempt to brief the features of the search. The paper also analysed some of the published papers on Elasticsearch and tries to present the growth of literature, map researchers working on Elasticsearch and explore the fields related to Elasticsearch through analysis of keywords assigned with the publication records. Scopus database is used to retrieve documents published on Elasticsearch. (author)

[en] This paper describes an experiment to evaluate the outcomes of using the semantic search engine together with the entity extraction approach and the visualisation tools in large set of nuclear data related to fast nuclear reactors (FNR) documents originated from INIS database and the IAEA web publication. The INIS database has been used because is the larger collection of nuclear related data and a sub-set of it can be utilised to verify the efficiency and the effectiveness of this approach. In a nutshell, the goal of the study was to: 1) find and monitor documents dealing with FNR; 2) building knowledge base (KB) according to the FNR nuclear components and populate the KB with relevant documents; 3) communicate the conclusion of the analysis by utilising visualisation tools. The semantic search engine used in the case study has the capability to perform what is called evidential reasoning: accruing, weighing and evaluating the evidence to determinate a mathematical score for each article that measures its relevance to the subject of interest. This approach provides a means to differentiate between articles that closely meet the search criteria versus those less relevant articles. Tovek software platform was chosen for this case study. [en] Domestic INIS project has carried out various activities on supporting a decision-making for INIS Secretariat, exchanges of the statistical information between INIS and the country, and technical assistance for domestic end-user using INIS database. Based on the establishment of INIS database sent by member states, the data published in the country has been gathered, collected, and inputted to INIS database according to the INIS reference series. Using the INIS output data, it has provided domestic user with INIS Collection Search, INIS SDI service and non-conventional literature delivery services. We expect promotion of INIS DB and expansion of INIS SDI service user will make a contribution to the improvement of productivity in the nuclear energy research as well as the diffusion of information about nuclear energy. We have promoted publicity activities to be boosted INIS DB usage, SDI service user increased by 66%. We have inputted 4,191 records in 2017(ranked No. 4 in the world), 4,311 records in 2016, 4,650 records in 2015 and over 4,000 records per year since 2009. We provided user convenience of improving the performance of electronic research notes system, carried out personal information protection and processing, construct an digital home page in English. We continued to established Full-text DB for research papers, reports and overseas technical report and operate knowledge management. And we collected web DB, digital journals and so on
[en] The results of the analysis of terminological subsets of the characteristic vocabulary used for semantic identification of scientific and technical information in the field of fast reactors and light water reactors are discussed. The procedure of automatic formation of thematic dictionaries is considered. The dictionaries were formed through the processing of full-text materials such as dissertations and manuals on operation of nuclear reactors. The characteristic terms (in the form of phrases) are singled out from full texts by the methods of the statistic-linguistic analysis. The IAEA-INIS thesaurus is used. (author)
[en] Introduction: Nucleus magazine is the only nuclear profile publication in Cuba, created to disseminate the main results of the Cuban nuclear program for peaceful purposes. Since its creation in 1986, it has included articles about nuclear safety and radiation protection. The objective of the present study is to show the behavior of this theme in the Nucleus. Methodology: They were used Metric studies tools and content analysis (Berelson, 1952). It worked with two bases of data: INIS- International Nuclear Information System and ScIELO- Scientific Electronic Library Online. A search was conducted and scientific articles were compiled, organized in EndNote X4 and processed in Excel for tabulation. For the selection of the themes, the INIS subject categories with IRPA themes. RESULTS: From 1986 to 2017 the magazine published 127 articles on the subject of safety and radiation protection, being the aspects most representative: Radiological protection of the environment 23, Regulatory aspects 17, Dosimetry and nuclear instrumentation 17, Safety analysis and evaluation 14, Safety culture 12. CONCLUSIONS: The study carried out allows us to affirm that Nucleus is a scientific publication that shows the development of nuclear and radiological safety as a guarantee for safety and sustainability of nuclear science and technology applications in Cuba.
[en] The paper is analyzed the International Data Base of the IAEA INIS, which allowed to identify the main centers of all countries participating in the last decade in the research the most used zirconium alloys for nuclear reactors, the most common water-cooled type.
[en] The International Nuclear Information System (INIS), created to facilitate international information exchange in the broad range of scientific and technical fields related to peaceful applications of nuclear technology, currently employs a Knowledge Organization System (KOS) consisting of an advanced multilingual thesaurus and an expert system. To maximize the efficiency of document indexing and utilize the possibilities of KOS to its full extent, a set of applications has been developed to automate the indexing and subject classification, and subsequently replace the manual process of input by subject specialists. The workflow for the automated KOS-based subject indexing presented in this paper showcases the method of gradual improvement of the assistance tools. This leads to substantial improvements, both in the amount of manual work necessary and in the quality of the resulting indexing. (author)
