[en] As Chairman of the 1st Nommensen International Conference on Technology and Engineering, I would like to welcome you all speakers and participants to our campus in Medan. This city is fascinating with its culinary tourism offering tropical fruit like durian and various food and cake that spoil our tongue. Beside its culinary tourism, the city of Medan is a dynamic business city with relevant past in agriculture and plantation. Hope you will have the opportunity to enjoy the food and your time while staying in this city. This conference is the first international conference conducted by our university. The theme at this first attempt is focusing on “Advancements in Technology and Engineering.” The theme is selected with the objective to bring more advancement in technology to the current development in this city and the whole country of Indonesia. The great effort dedicated by our government to expedite the construction of massive infrastructures requires more technology advancements. Our contribution to this conference however small is also of valuable input to the current government effort in developing this country. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the committee, speakers, authors, reviewers and participants who dedicated their effort for the successful execution of this conference. [en] Joining and Welding Symposium 2017 is a one-day symposium broadly targeted to gather experts, professionals and researchers from UMP in related areas of soldering, brazing and welding to share recent advances and development accomplished. The aim of this symposium is to provide a unique platform for interactive exchange of latest state-of-the-art knowledge among the professionals in soldering, brazing and welding domain. [en] Status and Path Forward: • A specific GIF Task force has been set up; • It will propose: – some specific tasks; – how to integrate them in GIF organization. • Next meeting to be held in the coming months – IAEA will be invited as an observer; • Yet some orientations: – Validation is a typical GIF topic » All countries seem to need sharing validation programs – Advanced simulation methods could be another topic » For some areas (material, thermal-fluid) – Development of common simulation tools is not foreseen.
[en] Highlights: • The size and profile of the International Seagrass Biology Workshop is increasing. • The rising profile of the workshop is in line with increase in attention for seagrass in the scientific community and media. • The next iteration of the workshop should consider more social science content. - Abstract: This conference report describes the programme of the 12th International Seagrass Biology Workshop, its highlights, areas of growth for the workshop, and potential future directions for the workshop series. The report is written with an eye toward where it fits within the field of seagrass research.
[en] Workshop Outcomes: • Representatives of all six SSCs gained a much fuller understanding of the ISAM, its purposes, and its application. • Overall, all six SSC representatives expressed strong support for ISAM and endorsed its value and practicality: – Clear consensus to begin using it on a trial basis; – At least two development teams are already doing so. • The only significant concern expressed by the SSCs related to resource requirements and expertise needed to apply the ISAM. • Draft ISAM document includes comments and perspectives discussed at the workshop.
