[en] The Director General has received a communication from the Governor of Norway, attaching the Chair's Summary of the discussions held during the International Symposium of Minimisation of Highly Enriched Uranium in the Civilian Nuclear Sector which was held in Oslo from 17 to 20 June 2006 as well as the summary from the technical workshop of the Symposium. The communication and, as requested therein, the attached two summaries, are herewith circulated for the information of Member States

[en] Paper presents main aspects of norwegian program for cosmophysical researches in the Spitsbergen archipelago in terms of the International program suggested by american scientists for simulation of near-the-Earth space (Geospace Environment Modelling - GEM) which, in its turn, represents a component of STEP International project (Solar-Earth Tie Energy Power). The Spitsbergen is shown to be unique place to carry out observations of geomagnetic and auroral phenomena in polar cusp
[en] The paper Dismantlement of Nuclear Submarines at the Zvezdochka Shipyard and the Need for Upgrades of by Nikolai Kalistratov, director of shipyard, Russia, provided a detailed review of nuclear submarine defueling and dismantlement at the Zvezdochka shipyard along with the treatment of liquid and solid RW. Significant enhancements of submarine dismantlement complex, SNF unloading and RW treatment had been funded by the USA and Norway. The paper explained how various forms of RW were created in the process of dismantlement and described RW treatment facilities used by the shipyard. Proposals were tabled for new RW management facilities, including a new incinerator.
[en] The regular observation of Roshydromet on radionuclide content in the Barents and Kara Seas began in the 1960-s. From 1992 collaboration of Russian and Norwegian scientists started within a framework of cooperation in the field of environmental protection. The results of long-term observations are considered and their analysis is done
[en] The presentation Global Threat Reduction Programme: Russia 2009 by Richard Hardiman from the Department of Energy and Climate Change, UK, reported on projects implemented in North-West Russia. They included the construction of a facility for SNF storage at Atomflot along with the provision of 50 storage casks; a number of infrastructure projects at Andreeva bay for safe removal of SNF; and the dismantlement of a decommissioned nuclear submarine jointly with Norway.
[en] Data, obtained during integrated radionuclide monitoring of the Barents Sea coast conducted by Russian and Norwegian scientists in 2006-2015, are presented. It is pointed out that radionuclide analysis data of marine environment sampled by Russian coastal monitoring station indicate the absence of any effect of radiation-hazardous objects of Kola Peninsula and radionuclide transport from the disposal sites of such objects. Measured levels of "1"3"7Cs, "90Sr, "2"3"9","2"4"0Pu and "3H are within the range which is character for radioactive contamination of the Barents Sea
