[en] As five very expensive robots have been ordered by EDF to repair the rusted structures of the oldest French nuclear reactor, this article recalls the circumstances of this order and the publicity made about these machines, and analyses the reasons of this order for machines to be used in the most dangerous French nuclear plant regarding safety. It recalls that the Chinon plant belongs to the old graphite-gas type, its operations principles, and oxidation observations and measurements made on the structure during its operation. It also recalls the various incidents which occurred, and outlines the low share of graphite-gas plants in nuclear power production. Then, it discusses that maintenance and other works undertaken on this apparently economically uninteresting site, could be its plutonium production which could be used to produce a neutron bomb. The effects of this bomb are overviewed.
