[en] The concept of sustainability was developed from thermodynamic properties applied to complex adaptive systems. The origins of the perception about sustainable development and limitation in its application to analyze the interaction between a system and its surroundings were described. The properties of a complex adaptive system were taken as basis to determine how a system can to be affected by the resources restriction and irreversibility of the processes. The complex adaptive system was understood using the first and second law of thermodynamics, generating a conceptual framework to define the sustainability of a system. The contributions developed by exergy were shown to analyze the sustainability of systems in an economic, social and environmental context

[en] Since they were first used in the 1930s, nuclear techniques have made a huge contribution to human well-being and saved tens of millions of lives. Today, they play an increasing role in both the diagnosis and treatment of major non-communicable diseases, including cancer and heart disease. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by world leaders in 2015 include a commitment to “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.” Nuclear science can make a significant contribution to the achievement of this goal. The IAEA is committed to helping its Member States use nuclear science and technology to reduce the number of deaths from non-communicable diseases by one third by 2030, a key SDG target.
[en] This work analyzes the conditions of two nuclear development strategies within the framework of a sustainable development of the activity in the country. A review is made of the reactivation of nuclear activity between 2006-2015, and the state of the Argentine nuclear sector to date. Nuclear reactor construction plans announced with China and Russia are presented, highlighting some unwanted effects in the construction of large infrastructure works. Given this, an alternative based on the development of modular reactors is proposed. Advantages and disadvantages of each case are presented within the framework of a “sustainable” nuclear development policy for Argentina. (author)
[es]El presente trabajo analiza las condiciones de dos estrategias de desarrollo nuclear en el marco de un desarrollo sustentable de la actividad en el país. Se realiza un repaso de la reactivación de la actividad nuclear entre 2006-2015, y el estado del sector nuclear argentino a la fecha. Se presentan los planes de construcción de reactores nucleares anunciados con China y Rusia, resaltando algunos efectos no deseados en la construcción de grandes obras de infraestructura. Ante ello, se propone una alternativa basada en el desarrollo de reactores modulares. Se presentan ventajas y desventajas de cada caso en el marco de una política de desarrollo nuclear “sustentable” para Argentina. (author)

[en] In Colombia many rivers and other inland aquatic systems, especially into the Andean region (the most populated of the country), suffer several anthropogenic impacts related to land use and land cover compromising their water quality and quantity, and the provision of other goods and ecosystem services for the future. it is imperative that the colombian government may initiate new and updated policies, plans, programs in constant consultation and cooperation with other institutions, civilian and environmental authorities, and researchers from the country (or elsewhere), to obtain amply responsibility on the sustainable river management, especially in this region. Thus, a more integrative watershed river assessment and related riverine issues are necessaries for the current freshwater use and management, and before that new development projects going to start. Decision making regarding concerted solutions should be carried out at the lowest appropriate level, ideally involving all stake holders into a strategic environmental assessment framework (sea). This article discusses several issues about how all Colombians and mainly Andean people can contribute by working together in partnerships with government under the vision and implementation of a sea, towards a more effective and integrated sustainable management of river basins in the Andean region and throughout country. This point of view is supported by a biophysical and social vision related to the Coello River basin in central Colombia (Department of Tolima).
[en] One of the topics of more present time in the national and international environment has to do with the environment and all circumstances that surround it. The public accountants are involved direct or indirectly with the environmental handling, this profession has a great incidence in many aspects of this topic. The environmental development has to do with several such aspects as inequality and poverty, the incalculable human resource, the same environment, the social, political and cultural aspects and some indicators that have to do with the same development. All the proposals that they have to do with the environmental development they don't stop to be simply index normalized, it is to include non-monetary elements of the well being toward the leading of the development politicians. Such events as environmental costs, environmental control, industrial processes, human resources and others of great importance possess continuous and permanent relationship with the public accounting. For this reason it has been to analyze environmental aspects, with the purpose of investigating what documentation and advances exist in other countries, to be able to show some light to the interested, and this way to develop some hypotheses that can be in turn elements of integration technician-accountant jointly. The measurements of the entrance and the total product of nation, they give an extremely imperfect indication of their well -being. Besides the holes so well well-known of their covering, as the domestic work not remunerated, it is necessary to know at least another group of information to be able to emit a conclusive trial about the tendencies of the human well-being

[en] None of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2000 directly addressed energy, although for nearly all of them - from eradicating poverty and hunger to improving education and health - progress has depended on greater access to modern energy. Thirteen years later, energy is being given more attention. The target date for the MDGs is 2015, and in 2012 the UN began deliberations to develop sustainable development goals to guide support for sustainable development beyond 2015.
