[en] This conference outlined the state of Quebec's energy industry with reference to recent developments within Quebec's Regie de l'energie and other regulatory frameworks. Topics of discussion included the role of natural gas; energy security; aluminium smelters and the energy sector; doing business in Quebec; energy reliability; investment in energy sources; the profitability of Canada's oil and gas sector; refining capacity in Quebec; wind power development; recent developments and challenges facing nuclear energy; and energy supplies and demand management. [en] A leading expert in exploration geology was asked his opinion regarding government intervention in hydrocarbon exploration and development with respect to sustainable development requirements. Fifty-one per cent of Quebec's energy consumption is attributed to hydrocarbons and 38 per cent to electricity. It is expected that proportions of this demand will remain the same for several decades. This paper evaluates Quebec's hydrocarbon potential and exploration to meet future energy demands. It was suggested that the Quebec government should explore the idea of uniting government, university and private enterprises in assessing the resource potential of Quebec's sedimentary basins with the possibility of using strategic information from oil and gas companies to improve existing databases. Quebec's objective is to improve energy security and supply and to improve the economic prosperity of Quebec's natural resource development, particularly hydrocarbons. It was also emphasized that oil and gas exploration should eventually be harmonized with renewable energy source development, a transition that could take several decades. 2 tabs., 2 figs

[en] This statement shows the interest that the Government of Niger covers the energy sector. This area has potential both varied valuable, is developing efficient. Indeed, the energy sector is primarily organized into four (4) sub-sectors, namely electricity sub-sector where more than half the energy consumption is imported. Regarding the hydrocarbon subsector, surveys have shown that Niger has significant reserves. As the sub-sector renewable energy sources are exploited biomass, solar and wind energy. These results complement those about the quantitative aspect of this same market segment. [en] After an identification of 5 postures which clarify the ADEME's role with communities, and of 4 strategic axes to strengthen this relationship, this report discusses how the ADEME can prioritise its actions: an approach adapted to each community in order to strengthen partnerships, to develop the mobilisation of inter-communities, and to maintain a specific intervention with overseas communities. Some specific and targeted actions are briefly presented. The next part outlines the ADEME's role as a trustworthy expert for the implementation of the energy and ecological transition, how the ADEME aims at bringing together actors, mobilises actors and finances actions, takes specific needs of territories into account, and is able to catalyse initiatives. While mentioning some examples, the next part describes objectives and commitments related to a marketing approach and action implementation.
[en] Whereas scenarios with ambitious objectives in terms of reduction of greenhouse effect gases are based on the use of techniques of CO2 capture, transport and geological storage (for example in a scenario developed by IAE and published in 2012 in Energy Technology Perspectives), this study aims at proposing a large economic overview of these techniques applied to electric power plants, and at studying the CO2 price level from which such equipped plants become competitive. This referred as CO2 switch price. The obtained results are in controversy with specialised literature about this level. These differences are discussed and examined. The influence of the different fuels prices is then highlighted.
[en] The tsetse control project (commonly known as tsetse flies) is an initiative of the Directorate of Livestock (project coordinating institution) and the ISRA (Senegalese Agricultural Research Institute) Accompaniment and diagnosis of the project. It is part of the cooperation between Senegal and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).The method of control that will be applied is the technique of sterile males.This technique of sterile males, however, is coupled with the use of deltamethrin (D6), a neurotoxic chemical (in adult insects) that is fast and fairly rapidly biodegradable in the environment.This study is carried out with the aim of taking good account of the environmental impacts of the various activities envisaged by the project. Its objective is to assess the biophysical, social and economic impacts of the project and to propose measures to mitigate or compensate for negative impacts and to reinforce positive impacts within the framework of an Environmental Management Plan and (ESMP). It also presents an environmental and social monitoring and monitoring plan to assess the effectiveness of the proposed mitigation measures.
[en] As part of the implementation of the Stockholm Convention, Senegal has established a Chemical Information Exchange Network. The overall objective of this meeting was to identify the various actors involved in the management of chemicals information and to study the modalities for the implementation of the chemical information exchange network in Senegal.
