AbstractAbstract
[en] Technique for the absolute determination of the efficiency of alpha-detectors when measuring the content of radon daughters by means of the filter method is described. Some of the particular physical properties of the short-lived radon daughters are utilized. The reference test of the efficiency is performed in the same way as the real test. The method is based on the activity content of a reference solution of radon and radon daughters, and could be standardized. (G.B.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Further calculations have been carried out on the total and partial atmospheric coefficients observed at Poatina, Tasmania, 357 hg cm-2 below the top of the atmosphere. The total and partial barometric pressure coefficients previously obtained are (-0.047+-0.002) and (-0.050+-0.003) % mb-1 respectively. These figures may be compared with the value of -0.007 % mb-1, expected from the depth- intensity curve for muons. The partial height and temperature coefficients also disagree with those expected. The difficulty in establishing consistent values for these coefficients is discussed. A significant negative correlation is demonstrated between surface pressure and upper air temperature. Evidence is presented that some of the distortion in the coefficients may be attributed to this pressure-temperature link, together with temperature measurement errors. A statistical procedure designed to handle these difficulties yields partial pressure and temperature coefficients of (-0.025+-0.0020) % mb-1 and (0.070+-0.006) % K-1. These values are closer to those expected but the remaining discrepancy has still to be explained

AbstractAbstract
[en] An X-ray camera has been constructed for investigation of alpha-active substances. The camera is designed according to the principle of two-zone operation. The ''dirty'' zone consists in a cylinder whose one side is connected to a wall of the box through a flange equipped with bellows; the other side of the cylinder is hermetically covered by a plexiglass case transparent to X-rays with a wall thickness of 0.2 mm. A sample under study is introduced into the case from the box side. The ''clean'' zone, the camera body with a diaphragm and trap, can be moved to envelop the cylinder of the ''dirty'' zone. The centering of a sample is carried out in the box using a special device. The construction of the camera made it possible to avoid operations of deactivating samples, charging and discharging of the camera in the presence of a sample and provided radiation security in X-ray diffraction studies of alpha-active samples

(orig.)Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] In recent years the astro-particle community is involved in the realization of experimental apparatuses for the detection of high-energy neutrinos originated in cosmic sources or produced in the interaction of Cosmic Rays with the Cosmic Microwave Background. For neutrino energies in the TeV-PeV range, the optical Cherenkov technique is considered optimal. Water (or Ice)-Cherenkov technique is based on the detection of the charged leptons generated in the neutrino charged current weak interactions with the medium surrounding the detector. Those detectors measure the visible Cherenkov photons originated by charged particles propagating at velocities greater than the speed of light through a transparent medium and consist of array of photomultipliers. The charged-particle track can be reconstructed measuring the time of arrival of the Cherenkov photons on the photomultipliers. An overview of the current status of those experiments will be given.
