AbstractAbstract
[en] With the decision to decommission a nuclear facility, it is necessary to evaluate whether to fully demolish a facility or to re-use the facility in some capacity. This evaluation is often primarily driven by both the past mission of the site and the facility and the site's perceived future mission. In the case where the facility to be decommissioned is located within a large research or industrial complex and represents a significant resource to the site's future mission, it may be a perfect candidate to be re-used in some fashion. However, if the site is a rather remote older facility with little chance of being modified to today's standards for its re-use, the chances for its re-use will be substantially reduced. In this presentation, some specific cases of former nuclear facilities being decommissioned and re-used will be reviewed and some factors required to be considered in making this decision will be reviewed

[en] This bibliography contain information on decontamination and decommissioning included in the Department of Energy's Data Base from January 1981 through October 1982. The abstracts are grouped by subject category. Within each category the arrangement is by report number for reports, followed by nonreports in reverse chronological order. These citations are to research reports journal articles, books, patents, theses, and conference papers from worldwide sources. Five indexes, each preceded by a brief description, are provided: corporate author, personal author, subject, contract number, and report umber. (468 abstracts)

AbstractAbstract
[en] For the removal of contamination from operators' clothing washing media are required which, in addition to a high decontamination effect and adequate washing porperties, does not present any problems in the processing of the radioactive waste. For these reasons test were made with varios commercial 950C, 600C, and 300C, washing media as well as with the media used so far in decontamination laundries. Since satisfactory results were obtained with none of the products tested a composite product was developed in the Karlsruhe nuclear research centre. (orig.)

(orig.)Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] The new Research Centre for Syncrude Canada has made safeguarding the environment a priority. The former research facility in northeast Edmonton was decommissioned because of contamination at the site caused by more than 25 years of industrial operations. The process to decommission the site was based on a cost effective, phased approach to site dismantling, investigations and remediation. During the site remediation, several areas of contamination were found, with little background information to understand how the material had entered the soil. At he new facility a conscientious effort will be made to document all activities to prevent future occurrences of this type. 1 ref., 1 tab., 4 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] TECHNICATOME and STMI have jointly solved a wide range of problems specific to decontamination from the very design studies up to operation. TECHNICATOME has brought its expertise in the design and construction of nuclear facilities concerned in particular with decontamination and radwaste management. STMI is an experienced operator with expertise in designing tools and developing advanced techniques in the same fields. The expertise of both companies in this field cumulated for many years has resulted in developing techniques and tools adapted to most of the decontamination problems including specific cases

AbstractAbstract
[en] Rev. 1 to N509 and Rev. 1 to N510, the equipment and test standards originally published in 1975 and 1976 have been approved, printed and are now available, 1980 edition. The need for certain changes became evident as a result of using the original documents. One thing of interest is that adsorbent qualification now follows ASTM Standards which became available during the revision period. Appendix B to N509 has been expanded to provide guidance in determining maximum test leakage for ducts and housings. Tables listing minimum instrumentation for both ESF and Non-ESF air cleaning units have been added. N510 has had both appendices expanded to provide more detail on the significance of in-place leak tests and leak test procedures. These editions will be the last for these two standards

AbstractAbstract
[en] The regeneration of adsorbents is dealt with, more in a fundamental way, than with a view to process technology. After a definition of the basic terms, the mechanism of regeneration is explained, and possible methods are pointed out. The article concludes with dealing briefly with the application of regeneration in special processes. (orig.)
