[en] Since 26 September 2015, the Ecodesign ErP Directive has been of compulsory application for EU Member States as regards the design of Energy-related Products (ErP) and as from its entry into force only those products manufactured according to the ErP requirements can be sold with the EC label. Although this directive affects over 1,000 product categories, for those relating to HVAC and DHW production, it covers boilers, heat pumps, accumulators, cogeneration systems, combined products systems, establishing their minimum efficiency levels, the maximum levels of NOX emissions, the minimum insulation for accumulators and the maximum level of acoustic emissions for heat pumps. [en] Until recently the process of innovation in tourism businesses were characterized by their relation to competitiveness, technology and R and D. Innovation in services is a recent issue, because for many years the belief that it was a bit innovative sector today to environmental problems and the contribution of tourism to them was the use of eco-innovations in the hotel industry appears which causes begin to emerge studies addressing the issue and are published in various scientific journals. Thus, the purpose of this article is a comprehensive review of articles published in 57 journals hospitality and tourism during the 2007-2014 period. Most existing studies on eco-innovation has focused on five areas of research: a) consumer perception towards environmental innovations; b) company-specific factors; c) environmental technologies; d) regulating e) pro-environmental certifications. The analysis shows that the issue of eco-innovation in this sector begins thinly.
[en] In order to monitor and control the monthly and annual consumption of energy in hotels, different indicators have been proposed. These do not allow allow the rapid detection and mitigation of bad practices and overconsumption, nor do they take into account the influence of physical parameters such as outside temperature, or when they do, they use fairly complex coefficients, which prevents their practical application in most installations. The study analyzes energy performance indicators to evaluate and control the consumption of electricity in hotels, introducing a new one based on the outside temperature. On this basis daily graphs of control are developed that allow a faster detection of the mentioned problems and realize an adequate energy management. The tools were applied in two Cuban hotels of different characteristics, where reductions in annual electricity consumption were achieved in the order of 10% without investments. (author)
[en] The guidelines for urban design in Izola’s IPA-8 planning area, which is earmarked for hotels, apartment complexes, and sports, specify diverse forms of leisure living space required by modern society. The new tourist complex is not a large monotonous hotel complex, but rather a spatial arrangement in which guests experience an authentic local environment and city residents enjoy the new high-quality ambience. The hotel area is defined by three major communication axes from north to south, linking the countryside to the coastal area and opening up attractive sea views in the new complex. Internal east-west links connect buildings and public spaces. Because of the terraced terrain, a large number of paved ramps and internal public gardens have been designed between the structures. The extensions of the communication axes are laid out as squares, named based on the function of the public spaces. Hotel Street is the central axis and main connecting street, with public hotel services and restaurants. The west axis extends into Culture Square, where activities related to Izola’s culture and history are presented; here there is an opportunity to create new galleries, a small local museum, and an exhibition room. Apartment Square is located on the east communication axis, along which only a limited number of trade, catering, and service activities are planned. The plan received first prize in a public competition, and it later developed into detailed municipal spatial plan. In this process, it became clear that Slovenia’s Construction Act (ZGO-1) does not support plans to create terraced buildings. (paper)
[en] Following the sharp increases in the price of energy over the last six years and the increasingly widespread incorporation of installations that offer added value to the establishment but which increase its energy expenditure (spas, swimming pools, gymnasiums, etc.), the hotel sector today is aware of the significance of energy as part of its operating costs. Proof of this is that fact that a large proportion of hotels have undertaken, or are considering carrying out, some form of measure to improve energy efficiency. (Author)
