AbstractAbstract
[en] High efficiency filters were submitted to dynamic tests at graduated temperatures. As compared to the case of fire taking place in a high activity building equiped with such purifying system, these tests can be considered as significant. The tested filters were found out to resist to three ranges of temperatures: (1) 1300C during one hour, (ii) 2500C during one hour, (iii) 4000C during at least two hours. Some observed phenomenons, as for instance, the smoke emission due to glues, or building materials pyrolysis will progress the conception doctrine of fire detection network in ventilation sheath. Moreover these tests demonstrated that thermal fire detectors well chosen and correctly put into operation can be useful in these sheaths

AbstractAbstract
[en] A method is described for the manufacture of a superconducting member comprising a large number of fine superconductive filaments supported in an electrically conductive non-superconductive matrix. The method is an improvement in or development of the method described in BP 1,333,554 and 1,394,724 in the provision of a diffusion barrier between the filaments and the matrix. (UK)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Composite billets that function as starting stock for superconducting wire are produced by immersing an assembly of rods of a superconductor alloy or rods of a metal which is capable of forming a superconductor into a molten bath of normal material, thereby encasing the assembly within normal material, allowing the molten bath to solidify and form a rough as-cast billet and thereafter zone-melting the billet so as to remove all vestiges of shrinkage cracks, surface imperfections and internal inhomogeneities. 9 claims, 3 figures

AbstractAbstract
[en] Purpose: To surely recognize the movements of remote handling equipments in a reactor by the use of a device in a simple structure. Constitution: A light emission surface and a light reception surface are provided, for example, putting therebetween a hook of a nob of a control rod as a remote control equipment. Depending on the position of the hook, there are two possible cases where the light can not arrive the light reception surface inhibited by the hook and where the light can be received not inhibited by the hook. By visually monitoring the presence or absence of the light reception from the outside of the reactor, the movement of the nob for the control rod can be recognized. Optical fibers connect the optical source with the light emission surface, and the light reception surface with the display surface. (Ikeda, J.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Thermal shock resistant cermet insulators containing 0.1-20 volume % metal present as a dispersed phase. The insulators are prepared by a process comprising the steps of (A) providing a first solid phase mixture of a ceramic powder and a metal precursor; (B) heating the first solid phase mixture above the minimum decomposition temperature of the metal precursor for no longer than 30 minutes and to a temperature sufficiently above the decomposition temperature to cause the selective decomposition of the metal precursor to the metal to provide a second solid phase mixture comprising particles of ceramic having discrete metal particles adhering to their surfaces, said metal particles having a mean diameter no more than 1/2 the mean diameter of the ceramic particles, and (C) densifying the second solid phase mixture to provide a cermet insulator having 0.1-20 volume % metal present as a dispersed phase

AbstractAbstract
[en] The invention concerns a superconductor consisting of a number of superconducting filaments which are embedded in normally conducting material like, e.g., copper. In order to suppress coupling effects between th filaments in alternating magnetic fields, the filaments are snaked on circles with different radii around the longitudinal axis of the superconductor, each filament forming a helix concentrical with the conductor axis. If, on the other hand, the alternating magnetic field has a longitudinal component, two coils of different diameter are screening one another, which will cause magnetic instabilities and considerable alternating field losses. In order to prevent this, the filaments according to the invention are alternatingly snaked in opposite sense of rotation, each of the helices formed by the filaments describing a predetermined number of complete turns around the conductor axis in a linear segment corresponding to the alternating length.
