AbstractAbstract
[en] Recent progress in plasma polarization spectroscopy (PPS) research is reviewed. Besides discharge plasmas and solar plasmas, the first class of plasma which has become the subject of PPS research is laser-produced plasmas. Polarization is observed for emission lines and recombination continuum, indicating a spatially (directionally) anisotropic velocity distribution of electrons, especially in very-low-energy regions. Tokamak plasmas are the second class; impurity ion lines are found polarized. A kinetic model, the population-alignment collisional-radiative model, was constructed and the experimental line intensity and polarization are interpreted in terms of the electron velocity distribution function. Recently, atomic physics relevant for PPS has made substantial progress. Several facets, experimental and theoretical, are mentioned. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The three specialists meetings on Shielding Aspects of Accelerators, Targets and Irradiation Facilities (SATIF-1, SATIF-2, SATIF-3) held in Arlington, Texas (1994), Geneva, Switzerland (1996) and Sendai, Japan (1997) have produced an immense interest in the collection of computer software for accelerator shielding. The Nuclear Energy Agency Data Bank (NEA DB) and the Radiation Safety Information Computational Centre (RSICC) continue to pursue the task of collecting these codes for the interest of the community. AbstractAbstract
[en] The purpose of the IAU Meteor Data Center in Lund is to archive information on meteoroid orbits. At present some 5000 photographic double-station orbits and more than 60,000 radio determined orbits are archived. The available data are described and some problems discussed encountered in the archiving process. (author). 2 tabs., 29 refs
